Current Information

Due to the start of construction of a multi-storey car park on the site of the current car park, the Olympos car park will be closed from Wednesday 21 April 2021. The work is expected to last until mid-November.

What is being built?

An above-ground parking garage of four floors will be built. The parking facility will have room for 320 cars. Initially, there will be 48 charging stations. Later on, this will probably be expanded to 72 spaces.

The entrance will be at the same location as the car park is currently accessed from (Uppsalalaan). Three pedestrian exits will be realised, two on Uppsalalaan and one on the Olympos side. The area occupied by the garage will be smaller than the current car park. This means that no greenery will be removed. In fact, extra greenery will be introduced. The trees will remain as they are now.
The outside of the garage will be made of wooden slats in order to give it a good fitting and friendly appearance. The roof of the garage will be covered with approximately 850 solar panels. This will render the garage energy-saving for the entire Utrecht Science Park.

Purpose of expansion

The parking facility at Olympos will be expanded to meet the parking needs of the Utrecht Science Park (USP). The expansion at the edge of the USP fits the ambition to bar cars from the central area of the USP and provide more space for cyclists and pedestrians.

Where can I park during the construction?

The construction works start on Wednesday 21 April 2021 and are expected to last until mid-November. From 21 April, parking is therefore only possible in P+R Utrecht Science Park (right next to Olympos), or elsewhere in the Utrecht Science Park.
P+R Utrecht Science Park is easily accessible from the A28 and the Universiteitsweg. There will be early signs to warn people to park elsewhere.

NB: Parking in the verges is not permitted and strict controls are in place. Avoid wheel clamps!

Of course you can also come to Olympos by bike or public transport (Olympos is easily accessible by bus and tram; bus and tram station are right next to Olympos in P+R Utrecht Science Park).

Bicycle parking remains open

The bicycle parking with room for 260 bicycles will remain available. To prevent dangerous situations with crossing (construction) traffic, the bicycle lane and footpath along the Uppsalalaan will be diverted.

Noise nuisance

During construction, there will be regular noise and vibration. Naturally, we will try to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.
